More people just need to start to care and help others! It’s not just in Haiti but probably somewhere near to you. But what is going on here in Haiti has been happenin for a long time and it would be really nice to see the people feel some relief.

I am a Dominican, and as I read your article I was very moved by the differences between my own country’s lush forests and Haiti’s deforestation. Apart from any cultural differences we might have, Haiti is our neighbor and, contrary to popular opinion, we care deeply about their living conditions and the extreme poverty in which they are forced to live. The problem for me when trying to help is, where do you even begin to make a difference in a country with so many problems?

For all of you working in favor of the reforestation and recovery efforts in Haiti, I would suggest studying some of the environmental campaigns and organizations that have made such a huge difference in Dominican Republic (we have had to fight hard to keep our forests and national parks protected and with the ongoing efforts to create a culture of sustainability):

fundacionprogresso (sustainable heart of palm plantations)
fundacionsurfuturo (environmental organization)

and also the work of our current secretariat of the environment, who are doing a great job of aprehending violators of our environmental laws and in reforestation of deforested areas. (secreataria de medio ambiente)

i am now doing a project called world change day and my part is on poverty in Haiti and i would really like to help and get people to relise just how much pain and suffering of the way the have it . I would like to try and get vidoes of children and make people see how good we have it. I just want some help i am only 16 and a sophmore in highschool but when i wanted to do this project i wanted to foreal do the project to the best of my abilities we are tying to raise money but i just dont know how to do it. I need some help if there is anyone out there that can get me started and have some advise for me i would gladly appreciate the help .

Amen to all that you have said. I go to Haiti once a year with the child sponsorship program “His Hands for Haiti” and I personally sponsor eight children who I have met and love with all my heart.
I love Haiti and the people…I have to go back…my heart is there.
